Flying
into Canberra Airspace is not as difficult as you may think.
The
following example provides a guide to the procedures required inbound.
Radio
calls have been provided as examples only. These calls will vary due to a range
of reasons.
Flying from Moruya to Canberra
1.
Before the 30 DME point, obtain the CB ATIS (127.45)
2.
Before the 20 DME point, call Canberra Approach (124.5) to obtain an Airways
Clearance
DO
NOT ENTER CONTROLLED AIRSPACE UNTIL YOU HAVE
AN
AIRWAYS CLEARANCE!!!
Canberra Approach, MUW VFR Cessna 172

miles to the East of Canberra Airfield Inbound @ 6500 feet
Two POB,
In receipt of Charlie
Request
Airways Clearance.
3.
Canberra Approach will provide a Transponder Code and further instructions
including altitude and track to maintain
MUW
Squawk 3214 Track Direct CB when ready descend to 4500
4. When
you are within 5NM or so from CB, Canberra Approach will hand you over to
Canberra Tower (118.7)
MUW
Cleared Visual Approach Contact Canberra Tower on 118.7
5. The
tower will clear you to land - Make sure you review the ERSA to familiarise
yourself with the CB runways and frequencies etc.

Cleared to land Runway 30
6. When
clear of the runway, contact Canberra Ground (121.7)
7. If
you have a SAR Time, call Flight Watch (135.05) to cancel or amend.
