Flying out of Canberra Airspace is not as difficult as you may think.

The following example provides a guide to the procedures required out bound.


Radio calls have been provided as examples only. These calls will vary due to a range of reasons.

 

Flying from Canberra to Moruya

1. Always submit a Flight Plan - There is a lot of Tiger Country between Canberra and Moruya.

2. Before calling Canberra Ground, obtain the CB ATIS (127.45)

3. After pre-flights and engine run-ups put in a call to Canberra Ground requesting Taxi Clearance

Request Taxi Clearance

4. After confirming your flight plan on their screens, Canberra Ground will provide Taxi Clearance only at this stage

5. Always read back instructions - finish with your call sign

6. At this point and before commencing your taxi, ask for Airways Clearance to Moruya.

MUW Are you able to provide me with an Airways Clearance?

7. The tower will provide clearance.

8. Always read back instructions - finish with your call sign

9. Taxi to the Holding Point and only then change frequency to Canberra Tower 118.7

10. Canberra Tower will provide their instructions

11. Always read back instructions - finish with your call sign

12. After changing frequency to Canberra Approach, give them a call so they can identify you on radar

15. When leaving Controlled airspace, Canberra Departures will advise you

15. When 10nm from Moruya, change to their CTAF Frequency and give your inbound call

All Stations Moruya CTAF, MUW VFR Cessna 172 is 10 nautical miles to the west of airfield inbound at 5500 feet, ETA time of 06.

16. Use standard joining procedures at Moruya (arrive 1500 ft above airfield and join on the dead side of the circuit)
