Canberra Aero Club aims to bring together people with a common interest in aviation in order to enjoy and experience the challenge and freedom of flight as safely as possible. The Club believes that sharing aviation with people from all walks of life not only makes us better pilots but better people too. So come down to the Club and have a look at our aircraft, talk to our members or share a flight with one of our pilots.

Operating since 1938, the Canberra Aero Club is one of the oldest Aero Clubs in Australia. We are situated at Canberra Airport and enjoy being able to fly in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace. We are less than an hour’s flight to the southern NSW coast and close by to the Snowy Mountain ski fields. Flying throughout the wide and scenic spaces of the Murray-Darling Basin is also enjoyed by our member pilots.

The club operates a growing fleet of aircraft available for hire. We try and maintain a fleet that caters across different pilot budgets. With over 100 members, a great location and an increasing fleet of aircraft, we create an ideal environment for members and visitors alike.

It is with a very heavy heart that the decision has been made to cancel Wings Over Illawarra 2015.

The record breaking rain during April has made the airport grounds extremely water logged. We did think that if the rain could ease off during this last week we would be able to relocate most of the exhibits and stalls to higher ground. Last night we received another 25mls of rain. This has meant that the airfield is now totally unusable, unsafe and in no state to be able to have general public access safely.

From their wed site:

Unfortunately flying into Wings Over Illawarra will not be an option in 2015.

Unfortunately due to the large amounts of rainfall experienced over the latter part of April, the grass areas of WOL airport are completely unusable, and with more rain predicted before the event the likelihood of it drying enough to allow access is absolutely zero.

This has resulted in all display aircraft, both static and flying having to be relocated to hardstand areas only. This combined with runway 08/26 remaining open to safeguard against the westerly winds of last year has left no space whatsoever for the parking of visiting aircraft.

We apolgise for this inconvenience, but unfortunately there simply is no solution to this problem.
